Abandoned Palestine Refugee

Ihmayed Ali’s memoir is an inspiring story of overcoming challenges and achieving success. Born as a Palestine refugees in Lebanon’s Wavel Camp, he faced difficulties due to his family’s forced departure from Palestine. Through unwavering determination, he pursued education, earning degrees in Engineering and Education.

This book is about the exodus of the residents of the Palestinian village of Lubya in 1948, and the suffering they experienced thereafter in Wavel (Al-Jaleel) refugee camp in Beka’a Valley in Lebanon. It also talks about their subsequent Diaspora across the globe. The book consists of two parts: In part one, my mother talks about life in Lubya before and during the time the village fell
under occupation by Zionists. Also, in the introduction of Part I, you’ll see a historical background about Lubya, the social relations, and the inhabitants’ refugee journey to Lebanon.
In part two, I talk about my childhood as a Palestinian refugee born in a destitute camp. I describe the life of the refugees in the Wavel camp in the period from 1955 to 1973, and talk about subsequent migrations to other destinations. I also discuss the Palestinian Diaspora.
